SR Surfboards

Who is shaping your boards?

  • Scott Romig

All my boards are hand shaped, off the blank and built using traditional board building methods. I aim to create surf craft that are both aesthetically beautiful and performance oriented.

A deep perfectionist, I spend significant amounts of time bringing each board to a level that I am happy with. From initial design to the small details in finishing, each craft I build is one that I am proud to sign (or I wont let it go out the door).

I love building custom surf craft based on understanding a surfers needs and stylistic aims, idealy through an ongoing relationship.

I refuse to skimp on materials, using only the best and most trusted blanks, fiberglass, and resin. I recognize that my shaping is only as good as my last board, and aim to improve my skills and grow in knowledge every time I step into the bay.

  • Experience

I had the incredible opportunity to begin learning board building over 5 years ago at Kai Shapes in Morocco and have been commercially building boards start to finish for 4 of those years.

Having the chance to shape in Morocco gave me both the consistent waves and a wide talent pool to hone my craft. I was lucky enough to spend a significant amount of time doing my own R&D in the long points to the south of Morocco and in the incredibly dependable surf of the Casablanca region. Sponsoring a small team of riders gave me the feedback I needed from surfers above my personal skill level.

  • Input

The combination of team rider and client feedback, paired with my own experiences on various boards in a range of conditions has been an invaluable tool in improving my shaping. Additionally, being one of very small number of shapers in a surf country allowed me exposure to famous and respected surf craftsmen. Their knowledge and input has played an important role in helping me advance my own skills.
